The average temperature was 18° (cooling but still bearable) but the cold wind was really chilly! Remember to buy Uniqlo heattech tops and long john before you go. Most of the hecttech clothings in Taipei were out of stock or left a few sizes and expensive as compared in Singapore. Stock up whenever there is sale in Singapore. It's only SGD$12.90 when it's on sale. I bought NT$590 (~SGD$27).
Noth much clothes in Uniqlo that were on sale. And the price converted back to SGD is not worth it to buy in TW.
Bring along a tote bag or two. Most if not all stores charge NT$2 for every plastics bag. You can go to Daiso to purchase too, only NT$39 (SGD$1.80).
Bought the Easycard 悠遊卡 (our EZ Link card) at Taoyuan Airport at NT$100 (no value inside). I can't remember how long is the validity of the card, 2 years? 20 years? Haha The Taiwanese guy who sold the Easycard to us at Taoyuan Airport suggested keeping the card instead of refunding as there is an admin charge of NT$20 for every refund.
Easycard can be used at some of these :
- Taipei MRT
- Taipei and Keelung buses
- Maokong Gondola
- Convenience stores (family mart (全家), 7-11)
Took the Metro Taoyuan (Purple Line) to Beimen (Green Line) then change to Ximen (Blue Line), a station away. Almost an hour journey. The walking from Beimen (Green Line) to Ximen (Blue Line), and the underpass of Ximen is long and a lot of exits. It's quite confusing at first cuz we are tourists, not familiar with the signs.
Stayed in Diary of Ximen Hotel. Exit from Exit 6 of MRT Ximen station and walk along a stretch of shops. Less than 10min walk.
Address: 12f, No. 90, Zhonghua Rd, Sanchong District, New Taipei City, Taiwan 241
(90, Taiwan, Taipei City, Wanhua District, 中華路一段90號12樓)
Diary of Ximen Hotel is in a same building with Diary of Taipei Hotel II, Zhonghua Branch, Design Ximen Hotel, Zhonghua and a plastic surgery clinic. There is a affordable clothing shop - NET and a department store (last minute shopping for face masks and cosmetic products) below the hotel. The hotel is beside The North Face building.
Very basic hotel - basic hairdryer (unable to blow dry for long as the fuse will burn out), small fridge, safe box, hot flask, shampoo and body wash. A small window that is too high to enjoy the view but able to check the weather for rain. My room was the corner room. No spooky incident. Haha
The hotel has paper thin walls. You can hear people talking outside, and if anyone is using the hair dryer at the other room. The wifi is strong though. Room is spacious enough to put 2 large luggage bags in front of the bed.
Channels included Taiwan variety shows, HBO, Fox Movies, AXN etc. The Taiwan variety shows are enough to keep you entertained.
I don't like how used tissue paper (that were used after you done with your toilet business) to be thrown in the dustbin. It's unhygienic. :T
Adequate power sockets at both sides of the bed.
Heated mirror.
Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, shaver, shower cap, cotton bub and floss picks.
Smoking fine NT$10,000! SGD$460!!
Drugstores in Ximending
- 小三美日平價美妝
- 日藥本舖博物館
- Tomod's 西門成都店
- Sasa美妝
- 屈臣氏Watsons
Most of the drugstores have VAT Refund but need to spend at least NT$2000 and present your passport to get the refund.
Mobile street food vendors who will run off to hide whenever there were police. The street food is really a must buy, must try when you are in Taiwan.
Ate dinner at (all-you-can-eat) Tanoshiya - Le Ye Japanese Style BBQ and Hotpot (樂也日式燒肉+火鍋).

Desserts and fruits.
Salad bar.
The seafood is super fresh! And Taiwan clams are huge!! The clam meat is huge and juicy!
Taiwanese food 小吃 for supper ~
365 台湾小吃
天天利
天天利 Carrot cake without egg. Too plain. I think customers have to request for egg with carrot cake.
This tiny but awesome yummy cheap Roast Oysters stall is along the stretch of 50嵐. 50嵐 is around the corner of Uniqlo.
Be prepared to wait for at least 15min (if no one orders before you) for the roasted oysters and scallops. The guy will only roast the oysters after you order it. But it's really good~ Cheap too!
Look at how huge the scallops are! NT100 for 3 scallops in a stick.
NT100 for 2 mentai roasted oysters~ The wait is worth it.
7-eleven drinks. Their famous Chun Cui He 純萃喝 is only SGD$1+, SG sells $2.80 per bottle.
The honey beer not bad, but not everyone will like it. The honey is not that sweet, probably cuz of the combination of the beer.
