美芝律剪刀剪咖哩饭 Mei Zhi Lü Scissor-Cut Curry Rice (Upper Thomson Road)

Address : 244F Upper Thomson Rd, Singapore 574369 (beside 7-11)

Nearby bus stops: Bef Jln Todak (Stop ID: 53049) 52, 132, 162, 162M, 163, 165, 166, 167, 410, 855, 980

The only branch of Scissor-Cut Curry Rice Beach Road outlet has opened in Upper Thomson Road. Was looking forward to its opening when I saw the signboard.

First day of opening. The shop is rather small, about 10 tables inside and there is about 3 to 4 tables outside.

$4.70 for a palm sized chicken chop, a scoop of sambal ikan bilis and a piece of fish cake. Kinda pricey... and the worst thing is.... everything is cold. The curry sauce is cold too. 😐 AND they are not generous with the portion of the ingredients. The customer in front of me ordered braised pork and were give like, 4 - 5 pieces only.

Update: Went to upper Thomson road for late dinner last Saturday (22 July 2017), and the shop wasn't full of customers (the tables outside weren't even seated with customers), unlike the other shops. Normally, upper Thomson road shops are always full of hungry patrons. I guess it's really that bad...

Review : Itacho Sushi 板长寿司

There are 8 outlets in Singapore - JCube, Ion Orchard, Bugis Junction, Plaza Singapura, The Star Vista, Changi Airport Terminal 3, Bedok Mall, and Tampines Mall.

Operating hours from 11am to 11pm daily (depending on the opening hours of the mall)

Price range about $20 per pax (depends on what you order)

Itacho Sushi is set up by Hong Kong's Taste of Japan Group and sells premium sushi at an affordable price, especially during their 50% promotion.

Itacho Sushi now launched a mobile app whereby you order your food via the app and they will deliver your food. But if you do not wish to download the app, the waiters/waitresses will gladly take your order. Having the mobile app means there is free wifi! Good eh.

The mobile app looks like this:

1) Jumbo Scallop Sushi ($6.80 per piece) and Flesh of Crab Stick Sushi ($1.60 per piece).

The Scallop Sushi is fresh and it melts in your mouth! Order it when it is on promotion to try it~

The Flesh of Crab Stick does not taste like the typical mock crab stick. It tastes like the Alaska Crab?

2) Salmon Lobster Salad Roll with Black Ebiko ($4.90 for 2)

The salmon is slightly roasted and a good combination with the lobster salad. Can't really taste any lobster meat though.

3) Steamed Egg with Crab ($4.50) and Steamed Egg with Scallop ($4.90).

Itacho makes really good chawamushi. There are quite a few pieces of crab meat and scallop in every mouthful.

4) Spicy Salmon Handmade Mayo Sauce with Rice, Egg and Scallop ($6.80)

Mini plate of rice with creamy mayo cheesy sauce. 4 big scallops and pieces of spicy salmon meat. The creamy sauce covers the spiciness of the salmon, making it edible for those who can't take spiciness.

5) Grilled Squid ($6.50 for half a piece, and $13 for a whole piece)

Love this! Salt as seasoning to bring out the natural squid flavour.

6) Roasted Salmon with Cheese ($1.80 per piece)

The salmon meat is thick and tastes good with the cheese.

7) Salmon Sashimi ($4.50 for 3 pieces)

8) Salmon Salad Lobster Roll ($3.60 for 2 pieces)

9) Shrimp Sushi ($1.80 per piece), Japanese Jack Mackerel Sushi ($3.50 per piece), Roasted Fatty Salmon ($1.80 per piece)

10) Roasted Fatty Salmon ($1.80 per piece), Roasted Salmon with Cheese ($1.80 per piece), Roasted Salmon with Cod Fish Caviar ($1.90)

11) Assorted Japanese Pumpkin, Sweet Potato and Edamame, Sweet Corn Roll Tempura ($5.80)

12) Salmon Salad Lobster Roll ($3.60 for 2 pieces) Spicy Scallop and Avocado Roll ($3.60 for 2 pieces)

13) Flying Fish Roe with Cheese Warship ($2.20 per piece)

This is good! Generous amount of flying fish row with cheese.

14) Japanese Octopus Ball Original Style

15) Deep Fried Gyoza with Spicy Minced Pork Sauce

16) Roasted Egg with Curry Lobster ($4.50)

17) Softshell Crab Handroll ($4.90)

18) Boiled Scallop with White Wine and Butter Sauce ($2.40 per piece, $.130 during promotion), Roasted Salmon with Salmon Roe ($2.60 per piece, $2.20 during promotion),

19) Scallop with Black Truffle ($2.00 per piece, $1.80 during promotion), Scallop with Curry Lobster & Ebiko ($2.00 per piece, $1.80 during promotion), Scallop with Cheese Flying Fish Roe ($2.00 per piece, $1.80 during promotion), Scallop with Lobster Salad & Avocado ($2.00 per piece, $1.80 during promotion)

I don't like the scallop with curry lobster and ebiko. The combination of scallop and lobster don't goes well.

I don't like the scallop with cheese flying fish roe too. The cheese smell! Totally covers up the scallop taste.

20) Roasted Salmon with Cheese ($1.80 per piece), Roasted Salmon with Cod Fish Caviar ($1.90 per piece)

Nearby train station: Ang Mo Kio Mrt Station

Nearby bus stops: Jubilee (stop ID: 54391) buses 50, 128, 159, 265.

The restaurant is spacious, with a kids corner. The young servers are polite, they don't serve with an attitude. Seems like the restaurant staff are mostly youngsters, even the cooks.

Menu

One of their 'all time favourite' - Grilled Pepper Chicken ($9.50). It comes with 2 sides.
Charbroiled chicken with black pepper sauce. Some parts of the chicken were overcooked though.

Rosti & grilled bacon ($10.90). The rosti and bacon were cooked just right and came with a generous amout of sour cream. The rosti was not charred and moist in the middle. The bacon was not overly crispy.

Macaroni & cheese ($6.50). The cheese sauce was more to the watery side. But, it was not that bad.

Another one of their 'all time favourite' - Fish & Chips ($9.50). It tasted like the normal fish & chips in every restaurant. 😄
